Methven Arts & Growers Market Health & Safety Policy
The objectives of this policy are to ensure that:
• To eliminate accidents and incidents at the Methven Arts & Growers Markets;
• Ensure that stallholders comply with all relevant Council requirements;
• Provide specific rules to assist in providing a safe market environment for staff, stallholders and the public;
• There is continual communication between stallholders, and market staff over safety issues;
• Monitoring of this policy to continually improve health and safety at the market
Vendors must ensure:-
1 The safety of themselves and members of the public around their market.
2 That all gazebos and umbrellas are securely weighted down in preparation for all
weather conditions at all times.
3 That all stall holders' goods are displayed safely on a sturdy table or display unit.
4 That any vehicles in the market are safely parked and have the hand brake on.
5 That all extension cords are covered to prevent people tripping over them e.g.
where they lay across crossings, paths etc.
6 Site holders supplying their own power & generators must ensure that:
i All connections are protected from any potential change in the weather i.e. rain.
ii All extension cords must have a current compliance or “Test Tag Label” on them.
7 Vendors must also ensure compliance with their obligations under Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 (the Act) and associated Regulations. In particular, those vendors that use any kind of cooking equipment at the market must ensure the safety of the public. This will include, but is not limited to ensuring that they:-
i Keep any hot equipment and sharp knives away from the front of the stall, out of reach from the customers.
ii If they are using oil or fat must ensure that this is sheltered from weather elements, such as rain.
iii All food vendors must be equipped with their own suitable fire extinguisher and burns first aid kit. All other vendors must have a first aid Kit and Fire Extinguisher.
iv If Vendors are selling products that are cooked, processed or precooked or pre packed, or cooked with gas, it is the vendor's responsibility to ensure compliance with any and all legal requirements relating to the sale and advertising of those products.
V All food vendors must display their food registration clearly
vi Food Vendors who are using power or any kind of cooking facility are encouraged to have their own safety plan in accordance with the applicable law and regulations.
6 The Market can request all and any unsafe activities and/or equipment be stopped or that control measures are put in place immediately.
7 No Smoking Market Methven Arts & Growers Market is a no smoking venue
Market organiser is easily identifiable by wearing a High Visibility Safety Vest when they are on duty during market day.
Fire Safety
The following fire control equipment is kept in the Market Manager’s Tent: • 1 x 9kg fire extinguisher
A first aid kit is kept in the Market Manager’s Tent.
Recording of Incidence Any accidents or incidences that occur must be documented in the Incident Report Book at the Manager’s stall. This includes the contact details for all people involved including any witnesses. Incidents are generally reported quarterly.
